In 1992, as President of the Rice Design Alliance, Jay Baker
conceived, organized and executed the Heart of the Park Design
Competition, an international competition soliciting proposals
for the center of Houston's Hermann Park.
The success of the competition renewed interest in Hermann Park
and helped initiate a comprehensive Master Plan, now being implemented.
As past Chairman of the Board of Friends of Hermann Park (now
the Hermann Park Conservancy), Jay is engaged with that group's
Board of Directors, professional staff, and the City of Houston
in overseeing that implementation, now totaling $31 million worth
of built improvements to Houston’s premier urban park.
